As you may or may not know, I live in rural eastern Kentucky, a short drive away from the family homestead, Blue Door Farm. We raise cattle (I've funded several of my dolls through cow-sales), & calving season is upon us. I spent Sunday afternoon on the farm, so I thought I'd share a bit, because it was total Countryside Heaven, a perfect day.

I'm putting in my photos as links, because I had to leave them at 640 x 480 to get proper detail, & I didn't want to cause time-outs with a huge gob of big pictures all loading at once.
Cow paths are funny, until you run across one with the truck. BUMP!

Gosh, those farm animals have such a terrible life. You're right, rabid vegans...we mistreat them AWFULLY!! I went and kicked some of them after taking these pictures.

http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a183/dubious_volute/The%20House/blue%20door%20farm/cowses070.jpgOur two newest mommies. They are begging me for sweet feed, here. Our cows are all totally feral, as you can see...they're 1400-lb pets, is what they are. XD
http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a183/dubious_volute/The%20House/blue%20door%20farm/cowses047.jpgLittle Nuisance--her mom's name is Nuisance, we're lazy--is a first-calf heifer (=first-time mommy)...dude, that is a ratty-looking little calf she had. She should grow quickly, though...I mean, look at the legs on that cow. She's like a horse...Nuisance is even taller.
http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a183/dubious_volute/The%20House/blue%20door%20farm/cowses039.jpgThis was the best-looking calf in the field, so far. That dark red cow in the foreground is a babysitter, not the mommy. Her mom's way over on the next hill. And Nuisance is the black one in the background, looking at the camera. Everybody's still in their winter coats...when I post summertime pictures, they'll be all glossy.
http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a183/dubious_volute/The%20House/blue%20door%20farm/cowses076.jpgIt was warm enough that some of the girls were taking a bit of a dip. The pond is still muddy from the hellstomper storms we've been having.
http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a183/dubious_volute/The%20House/blue%20door%20farm/cowses090.jpgThat poor girl on the left is about to POP...she calved early on Monday, no surprise there. The one on the right, I bottleraised from a little pipsqueak. Look at her now! That is a HUGE cow...she's bound to weigh at least 1650 lbs. Of course, her daddy weighed 2300. o__O
http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a183/dubious_volute/The%20House/blue%20door%20farm/cowses103.jpgCan't have the farm without the farm dog! Poor Ladybug, though...she's so old now that we have to pick her up & put her in the back of the truck.
